Supporting Communities Affected by the California Fires
The Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN) is deeply saddened by the devastation caused by the recent wildfires across California. ARN's current President, Maureen Musto, MS RN APRN-CNS ACNS-BC CRRN FARN, has penned a heartfelt letter to the membership addressing the impact of these fires and sharing ways to support affected communities and healthcare workers on the frontlines.
Dear ARN Members,
The devastating wildfires in California have brought unimaginable challenges to countless individuals and communities, including our colleagues in local hospitals and rehabilitation facilities. As rehabilitation nurses, we know the power of compassion and community support in times of crisis.
Our thoughts are with the residents, healthcare professionals, and first responders working tirelessly amid these tragic circumstances. We are especially thinking of the members of our Southern California Chapter, who are witnessing these challenges firsthand and supporting their local communities during this time.
In the spirit of our shared values, I encourage each of us to extend support in any way possible.
Here are a few ways you can help:
- Donate to Relief Efforts:
- American Red Cross: Supports displaced families and provides disaster relief.
- California Community Foundation's Wildfire Relief Fund: Directly aids affected communities.
- Support Local Hospitals and Clinics:
- Reach out to hospitals in the affected regions to inquire about their needs for supplies, financial assistance, or volunteer support.
- Consider donating to foundations associated with these facilities, which often play a critical role in sustaining care during emergencies.
- Advocate and Raise Awareness:
- Share verified resources and donation links through your networks to amplify the reach of relief efforts.
- Support policies and organizations working to address wildfire prevention and mitigation.
Together, we can make a meaningful difference for those in need, including our fellow healthcare workers who are striving to care for patients in the most challenging conditions.
Thank you for your compassion and dedication.
Sincerely,
Maureen Musto, MS RN APRN-CNS ACNS-BC CRRN FARN
