Caring for patients with intrathecal baclofen therapy can be difficult if one does not know the basics of that care. This clinical consultation, using a case study approach, explains the pump management, symptoms of underdosing and overdosing and actions of the rehabilitation nurse in response to those symptoms. If you are new to providing intrathecal baclofen therapy, this paper is for you.

Duraski,S. (2023). Intrathecal baclofen therapy and the role of the rehabilitation nurse. Rehabilitation Nursing, 48(4), 138-141.

Falls are often common in patients in rehabilitation units. Preventative care is a must in caring for these vulnerable patients. There are a number of instruments available that may help in predicting patients who might fall. This research paper includes a comparison of three instruments that predict falls. The authors compared their institution's own instruments, Section GG of CMS' IRF-PAI instrument and the Hester Davis instrument. All three instruments adequately identified the risk of falling in patients.
