Meet the 2023 - 2024 Board of Directors
Maureen Musto is a Clinical Nurse Specialist who has practiced as a bedside and advance practice nurse for over 25 years at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Dodd Rehabilitation Hospital, where she has devoted her career to the advance of rehabilitation nursing. She is an evidence-based practice (EBP) mentor who develops, guides, and encourages staff nurses to become active critical thinkers and to incorporate evidence-based practice into their daily care to improve patient outcomes.
Musto is serving her second term on the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN) as a Board of Director. She was selected to be the liaison for the ARN to the World Health Organization as one of two nurses worldwide to develop recommendations for brain injury interventions in rehabilitation.
Musto has been a certified rehabilitation nurse since 1996 and attained her fellowship from ARN in 2021. The population she covers as a clinical nurse specialist are Brain Injury, Spinal Cord Injury, Oncology, Stroke, and General Rehabilitation.
Sylvia Duraski is a nurse practitioner for Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital part of Northwestern Medicine. She is responsible for medical management, history taking, physical examination, ordering treatment, and education of inpatient and outpatient neurologically impaired individuals. She is a certified rehabilitation registered nurse through the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses and certified brain injury specialist through the Brain Injury Association of America and most recently a Certified Stroke Registered Nurse through the American Board of Neuroscience Nursing. Her areas of interest include spasticity management. She has co-authored two chapters in two textbooks, Stroke Recovery and Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation Nursing and co-authored and has authored several articles found in Topics in Stroke Rehabilitation, Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Rehabilitation Nursing and Neuroscience Nursing.
Duraski is a member of the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses and American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She has attended numerous national conferences and has presented all over the United States, Canada, Bermuda and Japan. She received the Founder’s medal at RIC in 1995 an award given yearly to the employee whose contribution have made the Institute a place where each person is an individual of dignity, worthy of pleasant treatment and human understanding. She received the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses Advanced Practice Nurse Award in 1998 and the Clinical Article Award in 2017.
Linda Sun Young Park, BSN, RN, CRRN, is Clinical Practice Consultant working at Kaiser Foundation Rehabilitation Center, Vallejo, CA. She started her career as a new graduate nurse in Acute Rehabilitation 10 years ago. As a Clinical Practice Consultant on the unit, she contributes and is dedicated to providing high-quality care and expert consultation on designing, developing, and implementing programs for leadership to attain organizational goals. Park also serves as an advising mentor and consultant for the greater medical center's Voice of Nursing Committee. She is instrumental in preparing for the Magnet accreditation survey and shares and promotes the integration of rehabilitation nursing concepts with her colleague working in acute care.
Park served as a Board of Director for the National ARN past two years and is also the Board Treasurer for her local Northern California Chapter. She has participated in numerous committees for the Northern California Chapter and several ARN national committees, including the revision of the ARN Competency Model, Learning Management System (LMS), ARN Education Design Thinking Workshop, Board Liason, and Budget and Finance Committee. Linda is passionate about enhancing patient education and nursing professional development and is currently pursuing her Master of Science degree in Nursing Education.
Lalita Thompson MSN RN CRRN Coordinator for TIRR Memorial Hermann Intrathecal Baclofen (ITB) pump program accountable for leadership, education, and clinical support for over 25 years. She has shared her expertise of ITB pump therapy both locally and nationally.
In supporting the goals and mission of ARN, Thompson served on the Nominating and Leadership Development Committee, Chapter Support Committee, and Governance Task Force. She is currently on the Health Policy Committee. She has been a presenter and moderator at ARN Conferences. She co-authored the ARN PRN Neuropsychological Function module. Locally, she served in various leadership roles on the Southeast Texas Chapter ARN Board. Lalita is a member of the American Nurses Association and Texas Nurses Association.
Thompson is a strong patient advocate meeting the needs of under-served disability community through education and volunteer services. UT Health Stroke Institute featured her for years of volunteer activities, and Texas Congressmen Al Green honored her community service with a certificate of special congressional recognition. Lalita was The Good Samaritan Foundation Excellence in Nursing Award nominee for multiple years.
Thompson completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Prairie View A&M University and Master of Science in Nursing from University of Phoenix.
Karen Saunders earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Radford University in 1988. She has over 30 years’ experience in practicing Rehabilitation nursing including Primary Care nursing, Brain Injury Care Coordinator, Home Health, Relief Charge, Nursing Coordinator, Nursing Management, and Nursing Education. Saunders has been a certified Rehabilitation nurse since 1992 and a certified Brain Injury Specialist since 2014. Saunders has co-presented posters on Hourly Rounding and Medication Reconciliation at the Virginia Safety Summit, Virginia Nurses Association Legislative Day, ARN and AMRPA in 2015-16. She was a co-poster award winner for Performance Improvement at the Virginia Nurses Association Legislative Day 2015. She has also presented a poster on Two Patient Identification and Therapeutic Duplication in 2017 and 2018 respectively at AMRPA and ARN Conferences, and again in 2019 presented a poster on IN2L. Saunders is an active member of ARN, participating in poster reviews, CRRN question prep, and ARN Chair Support committee member, co-chair, and chair 2022-23. Her currently role is Clinical Nursing Educator for Sheltering Arms Institute.
